Farm-Fresh Eggs
Saturday, Henry and I visited farmer, fellow blogger, and all-round interesting guy Dave Haxton. We had a great time looking around Hammerstead Farms. While there, we got to help gather eggs from the hens, have our breath smelled by a Rastafarian Llama, and pet two goats names Donner and Blitzen. We had a great time getting to know Dave and learning about his farming practices there at Hammerstead. We came home with eggs and a fryer chicken.
This morning I scrambled up a couple of those farm-fresh, free-range eggs. Wow what a difference from store eggs! We buy organic, free-range eggs at the grocery store and Dave's eggs were much better even than these (less expensive too).
There is a deep, full-patette flavor to the taste of these fresh eggs. The texture is different as well - more creamy and buttery.
We will certainly enjoy eggs this week, I plan to make a roasted vegetable frittata. If you live anywhere near Dave or near someone else who offers farm fresh eggs, I urge you to give them a try. You may never again buy eggs from the store.

Your post really brings back memories. We lived on a dairy farm. You haven't tasted milk until you have fresh from the milking machine. We always had fresh milk, and cream. Homemade butter was a real treat.
The neighbors raised the chickens and another neighbor raised lambs and pigs. The food at carryins was awesome.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you liked your eggs, but just wait 'til you taste the chicken!
Be well,
Dave H.
