I recently learned that one of my Hungry Hoosier restaurant reviews (this one) was assigned reading for a university English Composition course. My review and two others, including one from Pulitzer Prize winning Jonathan Gold, were evaluated by the students. Mine came out on top. They evaluated based on the following:
- Criteria used to evaluate the restaurant
- Use of personal experience in the narrative
- Use of visuals to compliment the writing
Affirmation is a funny thing. I'm a 42 year old man with a successful career and a writing platform that continues to grow, yet confirmation that I do good work, even when it comes from a bunch of 18 year old college students, is nice to hear.
