The Red Geranium

Hpim1280Last night I had dinner at the Red Geranium Restaurant in New Harmony, Indiana. The atmosphere was upscale casual and a fireplace warmed the dinning room. The appetizer was the most interesting part of my meal. It was the Sweet Potato Wedge which was described as a fresh sweet potato baked and stuffed with French brie cheese, caramelized onions, and cracked pepper Finished with a raspberry melba sauce. I also had a nice wine - a 2001 Eos Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, California. It could smell the plums the moment the server brought into my vicinity. It was not too dry and went well with the sweet potato. It was a bit light bodied for my beef tenderloin entree that followed. The tenderloin came with mashed red potatoes and a "sherry wild mushroom reduction." The sauce was a bit thick and overbearing and the mushrooms appeared to be the standard button variety. The mashed potatoes were a bit dry. All things considered, I would give the place another try. New Harmony is a very interesting place. Wilson's Ribs is a few blocks away but they are closed during January. Anyone tried Wilson's?'
