City Market Frittata

ToccoverThis month's Indianapolis Monthly Hungry Hoosier column includes a recipe for a City Market Frittata using ingredients found at the Indianapolis City Market - farm fresh eggs from Moody Meats, Italian sausage, vegetables, and imported provolone from Constantino’s Market Place. Constantino's Executive Chef Concetta Mascari has the sausage made using her grandfather's recipe. Moody makes it for her, but it is only available from Constantino's. Pick up a copy of the magazine to get the recipe and then stop by City Market to pick up the ingredients!

Good Breeding

Jan08This month's Indianapolis Monthly features a spotlight (written by your's truly) on the Kobe beef served at the Joseph Decuis Restaurant and raised at the Joseph Decuis Heritage Farm, both in Roanoke, Indiana. The magazine is available on newsstands and at grocery-store checkout counters all over Central Indiana. Pick up a copy today. Beginning in March 2008 each issue of Indianapolis Monthly will feature a Hungry Hoosier column profiling an Indiana farmer or producer and a recipe featuring local foods. In the March issue look for Irish Stew just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The recipe will use locally-raised grass-fed beef and a locally-microbrewed stout. Yum!

Indy's Melting Spot

CoverIn this month's Indianapolis Monthly, I wrote a piece about what I consider to be Indy's ethnic eating epicenter - Honey Creek Plaza, a very non-assuming strip mall on the Northwest side. You can see the article here. It has brief profiles of Abyssinia (Ethiopian), El Sol Azteca (Mexican), Ginza (Japanese), Machu Picchu (Peruvian), and Mr, Gyros (Greek and a bunch of other stuff) - all in this strip mall.

Into the Mouths of Babes

Im_augustThe August edition of Indianapolis Monthly features a piece I wrote called, "Into the Mouths of Babes," about some of the best kids meals on the menus of Indianapolis restaurants. You can view the piece here. Restaurants featured include The Rathskeller, DeFour's, Brugge Brasserie, and Santorini Greek Kitchen. This was a fun piece to do and I got to take the boys along to help pick out the best of the best.

Bite by Byte: Free WiFi with Good Eats

DanicaThe current issue of Indianapolis Monthly features a small piece, written by The Hungry Hoosier, on places in Indianapolis that offer free WiFi Internet access and also have some great food on their menus. This piece is my first byline with IM. It provides round-the-clock WiFi/Food options starting with a Lox and Bagel breakfast at Shapiros, The Mighty Vegimetiferous vegetarian sandwich for lunch at Cafe at Ray, dinner (Blue Cheese Pasta with Grilled Chicken) at Urban Element, and then a late-night Chili Omelet at the Red Eye Cafe (open 24 hours). You can see a copy of the article here. I'm sure sales of this issue will be due entirely to this article instead of Danica Patrick's neckline.
