Yes, chocolate gravy was special, and probably made when there was no meat or meat drippings for white gravy. More common breakfast before school was the "soppy" which was a biscuit with coffee poured over it and sugar on top. The biscuits may have been a little firm from setting since the dad went out to work, so a good soaking was in order.
